Red Wings happy but not surprised by Jakub Vrana's start in St. Louis

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman knew he was essentially giving away a gifted offensive player when he traded Jakub Vrana to St. Louis but felt it was in the organization's best interest. The change of scenery appears to have rejuvenated Vrana, who has five goals and six points in seven games with the Blues. The Red Wings face their former teammate twice this week – Tuesday in St. Louis (8 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit) and Thursday at Little Caesars Arena (7 p.m., BSD). “We haven't talked since he got traded, but I just remember the day he got traded, I don't want to say he was happy or something like that, but I think he felt like a little relief,” Red Wings forward Dominik Kubalik said.

Red Wings' Simon Edvinsson sticks around for another game, with family in town

Simon Edvinsson's parents and brother couldn't arrive in time from Sweden to see his NHL debut on Saturday, but they will get an opportunity to watch him in person tonight. It's good timing, since it's unclear whether the rookie defenseman will remain up with the Detroit Red Wings after tonight's game. Coach Derek Lalonde said Edvinsson will be in the lineup against the Florida Panthers (7 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit) because Gustav Lindstrom (undisclosed injury) isn't available. Lalonde said if Lindstrom, who skated Monday, can play Tuesday in St. Louis, Edvinsson will return to the Grand Rapids Griffins as required due to his emergency recall status.
