The MAC became the first FBS conference to cancel football because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Ivy League and several conferences below the FBS level have previously cancelled or postponed football and other fall sports. MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said Saturday the league plans to shift all fall sports to the spring, though there is not currently a timeline in place for when they will play.
Michigan State linebacker Marcel Lewis and offensive lineman Justin Stevens are opting out of the upcoming season.
