Health Inspections: 10 Palm Beach County restaurants cited for pests, 29 had perfect scores

Twenty-nine restaurants in Palm Beach County failed to meet health and safety standards last week, resulting in 25 follow-up inspections and four temporary closures.

In Palm Beach County, Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation reported 625 violations during 205 recent restaurant inspections. Inspectors labeled 200 violations as high priority, 191 violations as intermediate priority and 234 violations as basic priority.

Ten restaurants in Palm Beach County violated pest standards. Inspectors found 15 restaurants did not follow good handwashing and hygienic practices. The department also handed out 73 violations in the county for food protection and cross-contamination.

Inspectors in Palm Beach County found 51 restaurants with two or more high-priority violations and 49 restaurants with five or more total violations.

Chung Wah, 6017 S Dixie Hwy, was cited Oct. 24 with 23 total violations, Palm Beach County's most.

Palm Beach County restaurants temporarily closed

In Jupiter:

  • Jupiter Country Club, 300 Marsala Court, was closed Oct. 26 after inspectors reported three high-priority violations, six intermediate-priority violations and four basic violations. The restaurant made the necessary corrections and reopened the next day.

In Lantana:

  • Saxies, 618 W. Lantana Road, was closed Oct. 27 after inspectors reported three high-priority violations, one intermediate-priority violation and one basic violation. The eatery corrected all violations and reopened the next day.

In West Palm Beach:

  • Pollo Tropical, 3085 45th St., was closed Oct. 25 after inspectors reported four high-priority violations and one intermediate-priority violation. The restaurant made the necessary corrections and reopened the same day.

  • Taqueria Guerrero, 628 Belvedere Road, was closed Oct. 24 after inspectors reported seven high-priority violations, five intermediate-priority violations and eight basic violations.  The eatery made the necessary corrections and reopened the next day.

  • Green's Pharmacy, 151 N. County Road, was cited Oct. 24 with one pest violation among four total violations.

  • Swirls Frozen Yogurt, 1748 S. Congress Ave., was cited Oct. 24 with one pest violation among four total violations.

Inspections are reported through the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, which says each inspection is a snapshot and restaurants could have more or fewer violations on other days. High-priority violations are those that could cause food poisoning or injury, such as problems with cooking, cooling and handwashing. Intermediate violations are those that could lead to risk factors that could contribute to food poisoning or injury, such as problems with personnel training. Basic violations are those that violate best practices.
