Yankees put OF Frazier on IL, say Stanton’s recovery hits snag

The New York Yankees placed outfielder Clint Frazier on the 10-day injured list after an MRI revealed a partial tear in his left ankle.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone made the announcement after Wednesday night's victory in Anaheim, telling reporters there's "enough in there" to shut down Frazier.

"The good news is we feel like it will be short. feel like it's 10-14-day thing. Maybe a little less. So we don't feel like it's a long thing," Boone said, adding that Frazier "feels like he could play or is close to playing."

Frazier injured the ankle Monday night against the Angels when he rolled it getting back to second base on a pickoff attempt.

The Yankees recalled right-handed reliever Joe Harvey to take Frazier's spot on the roster.

Frazier was hitting .324 with six homers and 17 RBIs since being called up for Giancarlo Stanton, who Boone said has hit a snag in his recovery from a biceps strain. Though the arm has healed, Boone said Stanton has encountered a "residual" left shoulder problem.

Boone said Stanton had a cortisone shot earlier this week.

"He's in Day 2 or 3 of not swinging," Boone said. "We figured now while he's down coming back from [the biceps injury], let's make sure to treat this as best we can so it doesn't become a lingering issue if we can help it."

The news on Frazier and Stanton came the same day the club activated catcher Gary Sanchez from his stint on the IL.
