Fourth-Place Medal, a Yahoo! Sports blog covering the Summer Olympics in Beijing

Yesterday on Pardon the Interruption, Cincinnati Bengals receiver, world-class talker and self-professed Olympics fan Chad Johnson said he could beat Michael Phelps in any swimming race. After being lobbed a question on whether he could beat Phelps, Ocho Cinco responded:

Where I'm from -- Liberty City -- I know a couple of people who can beat Michael Phelps right now. Seriously. I'm telling you. And I'm one of 'em."

During the interview Johnson also claimed he was the three-time Charles Hadley Pool champion. A quick search reveals that a Charles Hadley Pool does indeed exist in Liberty City (Miami), but no records of Johnson's swimming exploits are available. But if there's one thing I know about Chad Johnson, it's that he'd never, ever say anything just to get attention.

The Olympics talk beings with 1:22 remaining in "Five Good Minutes".

Ocho SINKco would sink right away the second he hits the water in a race with Phelps and be begging & screaming for Phelps to save his life & ask for a CPR

But in all seriousness, if swimming paid the same amount of money that football/basketball paid, and if you got the same glory/bragging rights for winning a swimming championship as you did winning the super bowl...you would see a of different people in the pool. Phelps is great, but if you were the greatest athlete in the world, and you could only choose one sport to compete professionally in...what sport would you choose?
The best pure athletes in the world are in the NBA and the NFL.

Too much fantasy, I respectfully disagree. I agree that NBA and NFL guys would rule games like soccer or volleyball or lacrosse, but swimming is an entirely different sport that utilizes different muscles and skill sets than the NBA and NFL. Allen Iverson's quick first step wouldn't help him in a pool, nor would Peyton Manning's field-vision.

i find that kinda funny that he said that.i would deffinantly like to see him against phelps.i'm pretty sure phelps could school him @ swimming but you never know...he might be good but nobody knows it yet.
i still vote for phelps but i would really like to see them against each other.i'm sure michael would get a kick out of this!i think we all would.they should do that one day, where they have like a player from a different sport come and do another person's sport and they would go against each other and we could see who would win.like for instance, chad could have a couple of players from his team come and go against phelps, lochte, lezak and a couple more swimmers go at it in football.then they could do swimming.that would be verrrrrrrrrrryyyyy entertaining.anybody agree??

Ya, and I'm the champ of my friends back yard pool for 5 years running... Chad Johnson is an idiot that is chasing media hype! If a race happens the defeat will be worse than when Billy Jean King embarrassed Bobby Riggs. Get a life fool... you're not even that great a reciever when compared to hall of famers past and present.

    Ocho who?
    yeah, that's what i thought!
seems as if everyone comes out of the woodwork, jealous as all heck because someone representing the usa is breaking records and is on top of the world. people should be stoked!
ocho must have bumped his head!
if he was any real contender, then he would have tried and made the olympic team.
however, the only thing that would be flapping in any pool is his lips, yelling for help.

ocho cinco should have to wear his pads and helmet in the pool to make it fair. and put a few tacklers in his lane, too.

I agree with #14. If he was so great, then why isn't he swimming at the Olympic Games? Some people are just crying for attention. Is he even that great at football? I have never heard of him before this stupid little comment. How many seasons has he played? CJ needs to get a life!!!

Chad Johnson has become increasingly irritating over the past couple years. He's an incredibly immature, whiny, egocentric receiver, who has become just another bad name for the Bengals. I'm absolutely sick of it. The NFL needs to drop him.

i also agree with #14... some people are all talk.... all BS... this is the olympics... THE OLYMPICS... he's competing against the best of the best in world and not just the U.S.A... Just the fact that Phelps is breaking world and Olympic records, man that's something you have to respect... And if he can really do it, why the hell isn't he there?
