Former Michigan receiver Mario Manningham has admitted he used marijuana and tested positive for the substance while playing for the Wolverines, according to a report in Pro Football Weekly.

Manningham, who left Michigan after his junior season to enter this month's NFL draft, sent a letter to NFL teams shortly before the Pro Day workout at U-M early last month and revealed his drug use. He had denied testing positive throughout his college career when asked by NFL scouts during the NFL Combine earlier this year, the report said. Manningham had a poor workout at the Combine.

"I don't use marijuana anymore — and I have passed tests since," Manningham wrote in the letter. "I know what is at stake for me and my career. I am learning what it is going to take to be a professional. I am writing this letter because I just want a fair evaluation, and I want to be accountable for my actions. I am willing to be re-interviewed, re-tested and to undergo any evaluation any team wants me to undergo."

from Warren, Ohio. Guess who else was from Warren, Ohio?
I'll give you a hint. He was a running back on Ohio State's last national championship team and is now in prison for armed robbery. Need another hint? He was drafted in the 3rd round by the Denver Broncos and never played a down in the nfl's regular season. Oh, and he ran something like a 6 second 40 yd. dash at the combine. Of course! It's Maurice Clarett.
Maybe they used to blaze up together back in the day whenever they went back to good old "Warren O" for the summer.

Big surprise. There are so many people that use cannabis. It's not even considered a bad drug so much as a drug that supposedly damage your brain in the long run.

It's a practical thing, at this point. A story like this makes him a risk, because if he pulls crap like this once he's in the league Goodell can suspend him. Think the Bengals will go anywhere near this guy? Nope.
IMHO, this downgrades him to something like a 3d round pick at best. It's going to cost him some serious bucks. And he won't get the free-ride first year a high pick gets, either. He'll have to produce this year or, more than likely, get cut early next year.

Ok, clearly you dont' know where Mario comes form. He's form Warren OH. Thats a mad thug town spawned from Youngstown and closed steel mills. I know because i lived there for 7 years(during his Warren G. Harding years) Everyone smokes pot there. Dont be haters, pot is not gonna make you a superstar. Come on; he was in college as long as he keeps it clean for the NFL it's all good. He's a great WR with speed and potential. If teams pass on him because of charater reasons there loseing out. Mario is the real deal; and if he slipps to the 2nd round id love to have him in Washington...........HAIL

hey "me", I never smoked in college, I preferred to get drunk and no, my life has not been sheltered. You must be some pot-head who thinks corporate businesses are evil and still rock your Grateful Dead t-shirts while wearing socks with sandals.

Clarett is from Youngstown. Harding was his 3rd high school. Manningham is up front. Nothing to hide here. Kids are kids. Mistakes are part of growing up................

An honest mistake. He was supposed to try out for the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition and thought they said, "Puff, Pass, and Trip."

PARANOIA, DEEP DESTROYAAAAAHHHHH! Seriously, if he's clean now, that's the real deal. I don't know about the area where he grew up but if he's putting his honesty out there and I was a team that needed a WR, I'd take a good look. Once there, he could further his credibility with team-sponsored, self-induced drug tests and just kick booty in practice and games. Even though this is so simple, pro athletes seem to not grasp the concept. He's not a criminal, he just smoked some ganja during his teen years and I wouldn't hold it against him. Best of luck, Mario!
