NFL - Sports Rumors

“DwayneKansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley was apparently unhappy with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe(notes) early in the team's Sunday game against the Washington Redskins. He felt free to let him have it and apparently threatened that he would trade him by today's 4 p.m. deadline if he didn't get his act together, according to ProFootballTalk.

The tirade must have packed a serious punch since Bowe had his highest yardage total of the season with 109 of ‘em.

In the preseason, Haley pulled another motivational trick on Bowe and demoted him to the third-string. Ouch.

It's sad when your team is so weak that you have to use scare tactics to get them to play hard.

Bowe might play better if he was on a winning team or on a team that knew they had a chance of winning.
What a sad way to have to play losing week after week.

It's sadder when they don't want to play. If scare tactics don't work get rid of the player. As nice a day as Bowe had I saw him drop three passes that hit his hands, and he failed to block on a bootleg. I say they are better without him.

He does make some really good catches but also drops too many easy passes. I'm up in the air on this guy.

Good for Haley! Let em know who's boss and that premadonna's won't cut it on this team. Though Bowe has great potential, potential doesn't win ballgames. Hard work and a team first attitude does.

The good thing is that Haley is candid with his assesments of players and not afraid of confrontation. It should lead to stronger and stronger play as the team grows in playing as a team and working consistently hard.
I think Haley will be a good coach. That's my prediction! The path to being great is always slower that instant but consistent mediocrity. Haley and Pioli are both seemingly preaching the same message, hard work, team effort, the right players vs. the best players. I think this team will be very good in a couple of years with this new leadership.
I am so glad Herm is gone, gone with his spotlight, gone with being enamored with his own wit, gone with a coach who likes to hear himself talk. Gone with a coach who wants everthing to be about him.
Hold onto your hat, we are going to have fun in the years to come!

Somethings got to happen with Bowe to get him playing consistantly. His blocking has greatly improved over the previous seasons, but he still needs to work at it. He also needs to be more reliable in catching the ball, too many catchable passes have gotten by him this year. I don't know if scare tactics is the route to go, but from the looks of things Haley's aggressive coaching isn't doing the job either.

If Bowe isn't traded by 4 o'clock Haley is all talk.
#3 On the Depth chart for not reporting to camp in football shape... Nice scare tactic/empty threat
    Trade talks.... another empty threat...
I would love to see Bowe call out Haley on his empty threats and say "ok coach, trade me". Personally my fingers are crossed and I hope he proves me wrong. The reason it won't happen is because Haley is trying to be that stereotypical tough head coach, but isn't dumb enough to trade away a receiver that had 15 targets from the major off-season "franchise" qb they picked up in the off season.
I wish Bowe would just call out this wanna be and show everyone his true colors. Haley watched too many movies and talks a big game. If Haley was for real and not full of hot air, Bowe would be gone and Larry Johnson wouldn't be starting. If Haley is so tough, that defense would of been doing hitting drills all last week because they tackled like women week 5. He can take all the parking spaces away he wants, he is all show and no go.

david....it's prima donnas. The only prima donna here is Haley...a completely egotistical a**hole. His tough-guy tirades and threats went the way of Lombardi. We saw his divisive tactics at Arizona...now, where he's he totally out of his realm, he resorts to bullying again. He might have been a decent positions coach but he has no business being a head coach. Never played the game but can tell you what to do? BS.
Chuck U Mann...Haley had nothing to do with the Allen trade. That was Herm Peterson/Carl Edward's attempt to revive a dying franchise. Big mistake, but Carl's ego proved to be too big to keep Jared in KC. As for LJ, give the man a decent O line and we get 1200/8.
BTW..I see Tank has been traded and Derrick Johnson is rumored to be on his way to da Bears. OK Haley....time to pick up some more NE rejects.

Bowe is the BEST DEEP THREAT we have. Wade and Engram are good but they are too old to out-run anyone. If we trade Bowe we are so screwed. Haley needs to relax a little.

I don't understand how this is a scare tactic. Wouldn't D Bowe be ready and willing to be traded!? There are plenty of playoff caliber teams that would be very willing to give us something nice in return for Bowe's talent. I would have laughed in Haley's face if I were Bowe, but he should be showcasing himself for whatever team he is traded to after the season. I love the potential, but if cutting him helps the Chiefs get some one who doesn't let balls bounce off his mitts, I'm down everyday and twice on Sunday. GO CHIEFS!!

If they dont want to play and block kick their asses! Haley might have let his emotions get the best of him with the trade statement but who cares! Every interview I have seen Bowe give, he seems like a primodonna goof ball, so I say kick his ass! Once the O Line is fixed I think LJ will improve. I hope they get good value if they trade DJ.

    # 10 Scott, I kept waiting for the sarcasm sound bit at the end of your post, only to find you are actually serious in all that you wrote. Time for a reality check and that is, as bad and they were and it was bad, Herm and Carl era is now looking like the good ole days compared to these two lame brains Pioli and Haley The only thing I couldn’t understand on this article is why Bowe kept trying with such an easy offer to get the hell out of Dodge… lol “hold on to your hats”

NE just cut Joey Galloway. I don't necessarily think Haley is serious about trading Bowe (who was runner-up to Adrian Peterson for Rookie of the Year), given his potential - and Haley's track record with developing high-level WR's, but, there are plenty of fish in the sea.
The biggest problem with this team is the O-Line. I know we've talked about it all year, and you can't blame the big guys for dropped passes, but if Cassel doesn't have time to let the WR get into their routes before he's getting dumped onto his butt, it can't ALL be blamed on Bowe. He's also the ONLY real target, which means double-teams and the #1 corner on him all the time - did we REALLY have to trade Gonzo? Isn't the old cliche that a young QB's best friend is a good TE?
I'm excited for some new direction, as it was clear that the old regime wasn't gonna get it done, but I'm reserving my judgment, good or bad, on this new leadership team. Time will tell, but a win against Washington doesn't have me pumped up.
Also, one thing that kinda pissed me off on Sunday, and in yesterday's press conference, is that i didn't hear ANYONE, not a player, not a coach, not a freakin' ball boy, talk about the fans! Even if it was a canned remark, I would have thought that SOMEone would have acknowledged that WE'VE been waiting for a win since November too...just a thought.

If you say youre gonna trade one of your best players, but you are one of the worst teams in the NFL, can that really even be considered a THREAT? I dont think Bowe would complain if he did get traded. Im a Raiders fan, but if they "threatened" Zack Miller, Kirk Morrison, Asomugha, Thomas Howard, or Richard Seymore with a trade to another team, I dont think any of them would exactly be on suicide watch...

chiefs fans amuse me. Probably the third worst franchise in the NFL (and starting to look like next to last if Oaklands win v Philly is factored in) and most would like to see Bowe traded, even though he's the ONLY potential threat the Chiefs have. Im a transplanted Dolphins fan, and all I heard pre-season was how Cassell was gonna give the Chiefs the chance to replicate what Miami did last year. Now youre ready to bail on the one piece of the offense that gives Matt the best chance to be successful. Maybe a little more vocal fan support would help these guys feel like they had a reason to finish out the season with enough effort to get a few more W's. AND the gatorade shower sunday was embarrassing, Haley oughtta fine all involved.
