The New York Giants selected South Carolina tight end Jerell Adams with their last pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Although drafted late with the 184th overall pick, there’s a lot of positive buzz surrounding the 6-foot-5, 247-pound Giants rookie.

All NFL scouts have similar things to say about Jerell Adams. He measures well compared to the typical NFL tight end. Adams had the best 40-yard dash time of all tight ends at the Scouting Combine this year (4.64 sec.). In fact, Adams might be the best all-around rookie talent at the position; however, he still needs to grow his NFL aptitude and instincts. Those improvements could help him become a more consistent professional.

Despite all the tight end options, Adams should get an opportunity to play next season. The Giants lack a good blocking tight end, and the organization hopes Adams can shine in that role. He will need to learn quickly, but Adams is a smart guy. Jerell Adams made the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll twice. He’s still a raw NFL talent, but he’s always had play-making abilities.

According to SportsBlog.com, Adams played quarterback, tight end, linebacker, defensive end and punter throughout his high school football career. In two seasons as the quarterback, he threw for 689 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in a run-dominated offense. He led his high school team to a state title during his senior year.

I’m excited about this potential sleeper pick. Keep in mind, South Carolina had a very inconsistent passing game, and Jerell Adams still caught 28 passes for 421 yards and three touchdowns last season. The touchdowns really showcased his athleticism. Watch all three of those scores with these three videos.
