The New Orleans Saints addressed plenty of weaknesses in the 2016 NFL Draft, most importantly the selection of Sheldon Rankins at defensive end, shoring up the pass-rushing issue.

NFL Draft 2016: Five teams that killed it

Cover32’s very own Tim Weaver listed the top-five teams who “killed it” in this year’s draft, putting the Saints as fourth-overall while giving them an A- grade:

“New Orleans absolutely cleaned up where they needed it the most. In a class full of great DT prospects, the Saints landed two as well as a great safety. As a bonus, they added another weapon for Drew Brees.”

Adding Rankins gives Cameron Jordan another player to terrorize the quarterback, as few teams were as putrid in rushing the pass like New Orleans. This led to other teams having no problem passing against an awful secondary that allowed the most points and surrendered the second-most yards.

Michael Thomas gives Drew Brees potentially a third major weapon behind rising stars Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead, plus tight end Coby Fleener who was signed earlier in the summer.

Von Bell has plenty of upside, but it remains to be seen if he can overtake Kenny Vaccaro and Jairus Byrd on the depth chart. David Onyemata should get plenty of chances to see first-down reps, while Daniel Lasco adds depth in a dangerous backfield that has Mark Ingram and Tim Hightower.
