It's been a long time — nearly 14 years — since Kobe Bryant(notes) has been anyone but Kobe Bryant on television. But if you were so impressed with Kobe's one-episode stint as Terry Hightower on "Moesha" that you can't wait to see him on the small screen again, you're in for a treat this Wednesday when Kobe will be joining the cast of "Modern Family" for a cameo. Set your DVRs because you're not going to want to miss this.
As of now, no one knows the extent of Kobe's part on the show. Well, I'm sure the "Modern Family" people do, but they're not telling. However, based on Bryant's prep work for the show, we can assume he has a minor role.
"I'm winging it. They just told me to be myself," Bryant said in March. "So I'm just going to be a smart a--."
He's no Mickey Rourke, but then again, Mickey Rourke wouldn't be asked to do photoshoots in pilgrim gear. Fair trade-off, I'd say.
The L.A. Times also notes that Pau Gasol(notes) was filmed for the episode, but his scene wasn't used. Based on his work on "CSI: Miami" and "Numb3rs," I'm guessing appearing on ABC would have violated some CBS crime drama exclusivity clause in his contract. Or maybe he just doesn't get that mockumentaries aren't real.
