Shoulder problems have kept Brandon Webb(notes) off a big league mound since April 2009, but he's aiming to return in 2011 and the Dallas Morning News reports that the free agent's return may come deep in the heart of Texas.

The 2006 Cy Young Award winner was supposed to talk with Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington and pitching coach Mike Maddux on the phone Tuesday, the paper reports.

The Morning News notes that the 31-year-old Webb, who has an 87-62 record over seven seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, would like a one-year contract with lots of incentives so he can prove himself and then sign a bigger contract in 2012. But in the past with high-risk players, the Rangers have favored deals with an option for a second season, the Morning News reports.
