It all unraveled for the Red Sox during the seventh inning Friday when catcher Reese McGuire made a throwing error and reliever Naoyuki Uwasawa's pitch clock violation with the bases loaded forced in a run. The Red Sox lost 5-2 to the Twins here at Target Field. Red Sox starter Tanner Houck allowed just one run over the first six innings.
Reese McGuire added a pinch-hit two-run single for the Red Sox, who improved to 10-3 on the road so far this season.
The Boston Red Sox led the Baltimore Orioles in each of the three games they played at Fenway Park from April 9-11. In the bottom of the ninth inning with the score tied 3-3, Reese McGuire stared down Craig Kimbrel from the batter's box with a full count against him. Kimbrel fired a clear strike that nicked the right edge of the strike zone, and home plate umpire Jeremie Rehak called the catcher out looking. McGuire protested the call with some colorful language.
