Player Notes
Nationals right-handed pitching prospect Lucas Giolito struck out five while scattering seven hits (all singles) over five innings, allowing one run for Low-A Hagerstown on Saturday.

Advice: Hitters are having their best month off Giolito in August, putting up a .276/.300/.328 line, which has brought their season line up to .197/.256/.298. Giolito has more strikeouts (110) than baserunners allowed (99, 70 hits, 28 walks, 1 hit batsman). He has also picked up the win in his last six starts, as well as eight of his last nine. In short, he is merely logging innings in the South Atlantic League in order to set him up for 2015 and beyond. Giolito is the best prospect in the Nationals system, and has an argument that he is the best pitching prospect in all of baseball.

Nationals right-handed pitching prospect Lucas Giolito struck out six over five shutout innings for Low-A Hagerstown on Monday, scattering two hits and two walks.

Advice: Giolito has held hitters to a .188/.252/.296 line while putting up a 10.2 K/9 in 2014. He is too good for the hitters in the Low-A South Atlantic League, and is likely only still there because of the Nationals development plan for him. He should go to High-A Potomac for 2015, and could be in Washington during the 2017 season.
