Player Notes
After cruising through four innings, Danny Salazar was lit up in the fifth by the Tigers on Thursday and ended up allowing five runs in 4 2/3 innings in all.

Advice: The typically inefficient Salazar needed just 47 pitches to get through four, but he walked two straight to start the fifth, gave up a three-run homer to Ian Kinsler and then allowed three more hits (with an intentional walk mixed in) before being pulled. He ended up throwing 35 pitches in that frame alone. Salazar is a big-time talent and he's going to post some strong results this year, but he's been awfully frustrating thus far.

Danny Salazar struck out 10 in 3 2/3 innings on Thursday, but he gave up five runs and six hits to take a loss.

Advice: Incredibly, not one of the 18 batters Salazar faced delivered a ball in play for an out. He allowed six hits, walked two and struck out the other 10 guys he faced. He's the first starter ever to strike out at least 10 while pitching fewer than four innings. Still, it's not exactly new territory for him; last year, he had starts of nine strikeouts in 3 2/3 scoreless innings and eight strikeouts in four innings. Salazar has a 6.75 ERA after two starts this year, but better days are ahead.
