Player Notes
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Norichika Aoki could bat leadoff at times in 2015.

Advice: Angel Pagan will enter spring training as the Giants' primary leadoff hitter, but Bochy told reporters that he and his staff are open to using Aoki if he proves to be the better option. Aoki, who signed a one-year, $4 million contract with San Francisco last week, owns a .353 career on-base percentage in 438 major league games. Pagan's career OBP is .334.

Giants signed OF Norichika Aoki to a one-year, $4 million contract with a club option for 2016.

Advice: The option is for $5.5 million and Aoki has the chance to earn $1.5 million per year in incentives, so the contract could potentially max out at $12.5 million. The former Royal batted .285/.349/.360 last season with 17 steals, though he hit just one homer. The power doesn't figure to rebound at AT&T Park, but Aoki is a good bet for a nice average and decent stolen bases total. He'll be the Giants' main left fielder.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants have signed Norichika Aoki to a one-year contract.

Advice: It's a $4 million deal that includes a $5.5 million option for 2016. He can earn $1.5 million per year in incentives, so the contract could potentially max out at $12.5 million. Aoki hit just one homer last season in a move to pitcher-friendly Kauffman Stadium, but he batted a solid .285/.349/.360 overall. His power isn't likely to return at AT&T Park, but Aoki is a good bet for a nice average and around 20 stolen bases. He'll be the Giants' left fielder, pushing Gregor Blanco to a fourth outfielder role.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles, Braves, and Giants are possible landing spots for free agent Norichika Aoki.

Advice: The Orioles have been linked to Aoki since the beginning of December, after Nelson Cruz signed with the Mariners. The Braves and Giants are relative newcomers to the mix. Pickings are slim at this point in the off-season, so Aoki and his career .353 on-base percentage look quite good despite his lack of power.
