Player Notes
A rival executive told ESPN's Jayson Stark that be believes there is a "70 percent" chance Chris Archer winds up with the Dodgers before the August 1 trade deadline.

Advice: Stark describes this executive as somebody from a "team that's been talking to the Rays." Archer has had a disappointing 2016 season overall, but he struck out 11 batters in a win Wednesday at Coors Field and he was among the best pitchers in baseball in 2015. The 27-year-old right-hander is on a team-friendly contract that could potentially run through 2021. The asking price will be high, but the Dodgers have the kind of loaded farm system necessary to pull this off.

Chris Archer was marvelous in Wednesday's 11-3 win over the Rockies, striking out 11 batters while allowing two runs over six innings.

Advice: Archer scattered four hits over his six innings of work. Both runs on his line scored in the bottom of the second inning. With this strong outing in the books, he will carry a 4.60 ERA and 1.39 WHIP into a home date with the Dodgers next time out. Archer is a prime candidate for a second-half rebound, though whether that comes with the Rays or another club is a whole other story.

The Dodgers had scouts in attendance for Chris Archer's start against the Orioles on Friday.

Advice: Current Dodgers president Andrew Friedman was the Rays' GM when Tampa Bay traded for Archer in 2011. The Dodgers just got Brandon McCarthy back from Tommy John surgery and Brett Anderson (back surgery) could be right behind him, but that doesn't mean the Dodgers are satisfied with their starting rotation. Archer has struggled this year (4-13, 4.68 ERA) but he has a decent track record and he still has an impressive strikeout rate (10.43 K/9). Maybe all he needs is a change of scenery.

Chris Archer gave up four runs in 7 1/3 innings in a loss to the Orioles on Friday, striking out six, walking one and allowing seven base hits.

Advice: He gave up two more home runs today and has now given up 20 homers in 20 starts. His strikeout rate remains elite, but it doesn't matter if he is giving up so many longballs. Archer and his 4.68 ERA should be benched for his next start in the thin air of Coors Field on Wednesday.
