Player Notes
Joel Sherman of the New York Post confirms the Rays have signed free agent catcher Wilson Ramos to a two-year contract.

Advice: It's worth $12.5 million guaranteed and incentives could push the total to $18.25 million, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale. Ramos was probably looking at a five- or six-year deal in free agency before he suffered ACL and meniscus tears in his right knee on September 26 at Nationals Park. He'll be in rehab mode when the 2017 season begins and will then try to rebuild his value in Tampa Bay over the next year-and-a-half. Ramos figures to split time between catcher and DH with the Rays. He is an excellent hitter when healthy.

Wilson Ramos has a two-year offer from the Rays and "could be close to a decision," per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Advice: Ramos' representatives were scheduled to meet with Rays executives on Tuesday night at the Winter Meetings. Maybe that already happened. The 29-year-old catcher is coming off surgery for ACL and meniscus tears in his right knee and won't be ready for the beginning of the 2017 season, but he's a legitimate masher when healthy. This could set up as a nice buy-low for cost-conscious Tampa Bay.

According to Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post, the Rays plan to speak with Wilson Ramos' representatives Tuesday night at the Winter Meetings.

Advice: "There's legit interest there," adds Castillo. Ramos suffered ACL and meniscus tears in his right knee on September 26 and his rehab is expected to stretch into the early part of the 2017 season, but the 29-year-old catcher still reportedly wants a four- or five-year deal in free agency. He did produce an impressive .307/.354/.496 batting line with 22 home runs and 80 RBI over 131 games this year with Washington before the major knee injury.
