Player Notes
Jaime Garcia earned his first win of the season Tuesday, giving up four runs -- three earned -- over six innings against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Garcia stumbled out of the gate, as the Diamondbacks put up two runs in the first inning. Two more runs over the next two innings threatened to end his night early, but Garcia recovered to post three scoreless frames and earn the victory. He struck out five without walking a batter in the win. He's now 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA through two starts, and he appears -- at least for now -- to be healthy. Garcia will take the mound Monday against the Brewers.

Jaime Garcia had control issues but still managed to work seven innings against the Mets on Thursday, walking five and allowing two runs in the 5-0 loss.

Advice: Garcia had been on the shelf with a shoulder injury for the first month and a half. The rust showed against the Mets, as he threw just 60 of his 102 pitches for strikes and walked five. While he only struck out two, there were definitely positives to take away from the game. Even with the five walks, Garcia still managed to gut out seven innings. And it's not like the Mets were batting him around the yard, as Garcia limited them to five hits and pulled off a nice Houdini act when he escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the fourth allowing just one run. All in all, not bad. Garcia holds a 3.50 ERA for his career over 594 2/3 innings and should have value and potential upside in mixed-league formats. Just know that continued health is far from a given here. He hasn't made more than 20 starts in a season since 2011.

Cardinals activated LHP Jaime Garcia from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Garcia missed the first seven-plus weeks of the 2015 regular season with a shoulder injury that has lingered now for three years. He's claiming to feel great and the 28-year-old left-hander has always been an effective major league starter when healthy, but he can't really be counted on to stay clear of the disabled list. Garcia will make his season debut Thursday afternoon against the Mets. He has an opportunity to take over Adam Wainwright's spot in the Cardinals' rotation.

Jamie Garcia (shoulder) will rejoin the Cardinals rotation on Thursday against the Mets.

Advice: The team appeared to be leaning in that direction, and now it's confirmed. While he's a very poor bet to remain healthy, Garcia has always been a solid starter when taking the hill and is worth a short-term add in most mixed leagues.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Sunday that the team is "leaning towards" starting Jaime Garcia (shoulder) on Thursday versus the Mets.

Advice: Tyler Lyons had another abbreviated start Saturday, so the Cards seemed likely to make a move with the fifth spot in the rotation. Garcia allowed just two runs and struck out six over six innings Friday in his latest rehab outing and should give the club good work as long as he can stay healthy. He's obviously a poor bet to stay off the disabled list for an extended period, however.
