Player Notes
Braves acquired LHP Jaime Garcia from the Cardinals for RHPs John Gant and Chris Ellis, and INF Luke Dykstra.

Advice: The deal was originally reported by Mark Saxon of ESPN.com and it’s now official. Garcia is the third addition to the Braves’ rotation this offseason, joining Bartolo Colon and R.A. Dickey. The 30-year-old southpaw managed to stay healthy in 2016, but he disappointed with a 4.67 ERA over 30 starts and two relief appearances while allowing a career-high 26 home runs in 171 2/3 innings. The Braves are taking a chance on a rebound and perhaps the potential to turn him into a trade chip. As for the Cardinals, they managed to dump his salary and get three prospects in return.

Mark Saxon of ESPN.com reports that the Braves have acquired left-hander Jaime Garcia from the Cardinals.

Advice: The Cardinals are expected to receive three prospects in return. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that right-hander Chris Ellis and infielder Luke Dykstra are among them. Meanwhile, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation hears John Gant will also go to St. Louis. With Garcia, the Braves have added yet another veteran starting pitcher to go along with Bartolo Colon and R.A. Dickey. Garcia is coming off a 4.67 ERA and 150/57 K/BB ratio over 171 2/3 innings - his highest total since 2011 -- this past season and is owed $12 million in 2017 before hitting free agency. The Braves could potentially flip him to a contender if he has a strong first half. It's a smart buy for the rebuilding club.
