Player Notes
According to Rob Bradford of WEEI, Justin Masterson turned down a one-year $6 million offer from the Rangers to sign with the Red Sox.

Advice: With the vast difference in the offers, it's not a surprise to see him wind up in Boston. He'll join a completely revamped Red Sox rotation that has added Wade Miley and Rick Porcello this week.

Red Sox signed RHP Justin Masterson to a one-year, $9.5 million contract.

Advice: He can earn an additional $2.5 million with innings pitched incentives. Masterson registered an ugly 5.88 ERA and 116/69 K/BB ratio in 128 2/3 innings this past season between the Indians and Cardinals, but he pitched through multiple injuries and the Red Sox are betting on a bounce-back season.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Red Sox have agreed to a deal with free agent Justin Masterson.

Advice: It's a one-year deal worth $9.5 million, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. Masterson drew a surprisingly-healthy market this winter after posting an ugly 5.88 ERA and 116/69 K/BB ratio in 128 2/3 innings this past season between the Indians and Cardinals. Boston will bank on the 29-year-old rebounding. He was excellent in 2013.

Nick Cafardo was told by a Red Sox source that the team's offer to Justin Masterson is only for one year.

Advice: Cafardo had reported early Tuesday that the Red Sox made an offer of "at least two years" to the 29-year-old right-hander, but that did seem a little aggressive. Masterson registered an ugly 5.88 ERA and 116/69 K/BB ratio in 128 2/3 innings this past season between the Indians and Cardinals. St. Louis eventually demoted him to the bullpen.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe hears that the Red Sox have made a multi-year offer to Justin Masterson.

Advice: Cafardo says the offer is for "at least two years." Masterson is drawing a much healthier free agent market than expected after posting a rough 5.88 ERA and 116/69 K/BB ratio over 128 2/3 innings this past season between the Indians and Cardinals. There's obviously a strong belief from some clubs that the 29-year-old right-hander is a strong bounceback candidate.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rangers and Red Sox have made offers to Justin Masterson.

Advice: Heyman lists the Marlins, White Sox, Royals, Giants and Twins as other clubs that are wooing Masterson. The Cubs, Tigers and Indians have been connected with the righty, as well. Masterson had an ugly 5.88 ERA in 2014 while pitching through multiple injuries, but clearly many teams think he could bounce back.

Tue, Dec 9 Rotoworld
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman hears that Justin Masterson will meet with the Marlins, White Sox and possibly the Cubs at this week's Winter Meetings.

Advice: Masterson met with the Red Sox on Sunday and has previously been linked to the Twins and Tigers, so he's drawing quite a bit of interest despite a disappointing season. The 30-year-old had an ugly 5.88 ERA in 2014 while pitching through multiple injuries.

LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Justin Masterson "appears to be moving forward without the Twins."

Advice: The Twins were one of the first clubs linked to the free agent this winter, but Neal says there's been "little contact of late" between the two sides. Masterson will meet with a handful of teams at the Winter Meetings, but it appears the Twins probably aren't on the list. The Marlins, Indians, White Sox and Tigers have also been connected with the righty.
