Player Notes
Joakim Soria had a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his fourth save as the Tigers won against the Pirates 1-0 on Wednesday.

Advice: Soria got Corey Hart to ground out, Josh Harrison to fly out, and Gregory Polanco to strike out to end the ballgame. The Tigers haven't missed Joe Nathan much, as Soria is now 4-for-4 in save chances. If Soria continues to pitch well, he could make a case for continuing to close even after Nathan is healthy enough to return.

Joakim Soria recorded his third save of the season after setting the Pirates down in order in the ninth inning on Tuesday.

Advice: Soria induced two ground outs from Andrew Lambo and Josh Harrison, then got Gregory Polanco to fly out to end the contest. Filling in for the injured Joe Nathan, Soria is 3-for-3 so far in save situations and is likely the better candidate for the role anyway. The Tigers should be just fine with Soria in the ninth inning.

Joakim Soria earned his second save of the season Sunday in the Tigers' win over the Indians.

Advice: Soria pitched a perfect ninth inning, fanning one of the three batters he faced with nine of his 12 pitches going for strikes. The right-hander is technically being considered the Tigers' fill-in closer, but he's good enough to run away with the job while Joe Nathan is sidelined. Nathan is suffering from a Grade 1 flexor strain in his right elbow and will probably be out for at least another month.

Joakim Soria locked down his first save of the season on Friday, cleaning up a jam that he inherited from Joba Chamberlain.

Advice: The Tigers entered the ninth inning with a four-run advantage, but Chamberlain allowed a pair of runs putting the tying run on-deck with manager Brad Ausmus opted to go to Soria to clean things up. It sounds as though Joe Nathan will require an extended absence, so this job should belong to Soria for as long as he continues to pitch well.

Joakim Soria will serve as the Tigers' closer while Joe Nathan (elbow) is sidelined.

Advice: Nathan was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a flexor strain in his right elbow. Soria seemed like a better fantasy option than Nathan in drafts this spring, and owners who used that strategy are now getting an early payday. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Wednesday that Nathan will get the ninth-inning job back when he is healthy, but Soria could be good enough to make Ausmus reconsider.
