Player Notes
Alex Gordon hit his 17th home run of the season, finishing 2-for-5 overall, in the Royals' 10-inning loss to the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: Gordon tied the game up at 5-5 in the seventh inning with a solo home run off of Ryan Pressly. The AL MVP candidate now has 17 home runs, 61 RBI, eight stolen bases, and a .282/.356/.457 slash line. August has been good to him, as he is batting .305 (29-for-95) with eight home runs and 14 RBI.

Alex Gordon hit a two-run walk-off home run to give the Royals a 2-1 victory over the Twins on Tuesday.

Advice: Gordon hit the two-run shot off Twins closer Glen Perkins. The outfielder finished 2-for-4 in the game, bringing his line up to .283/.356/.454 on the year. He's been especially effective in August, as Tuesday's was his seventh home run to go with 12 RBI and 16 runs scored this month.

Alex Gordon told the Kansas City Star that he intends to forgo free agency after next season and pick up his $13.25 million player option for 2016.

Advice: That's easy to say now, but we'll see. Gordon will be 32 in 2016, and if he plays next year like he has this one, he could be in line for something like $72 million over four years. Passing that up to earn $13.25 million and going back on the market at age 33 doesn't seem like a very good idea at all. Perhaps, though, he'll be able to agree to a long-term deal with the Royals before then.
