Player Notes
Michael Wacha had to be lifted after striking out 10 and walking five in four innings against the Mets on Wednesday.

Advice: Wacha got his first nine outs via the K, but he lost it in the fourth, allowing two hits and walking three batters, including two with the bases loaded. His pitch count was high enough after all of the early swings and misses and the long fourth that the Cardinals had no choice but to pull him. This will probably go down as one of the flukier outings of Wacha's career. He had walked just three batters total in his first four starts, so it's not as if control is typically a problem for him.

Michael Wacha took the loss Friday after giving up three runs -- one earned -- over seven innings against the Nationals.

Advice: The Nationals pulled ahead in the bottom of the seventh inning after Wacha threw a wild pitch and Yadier Molina made a throwing error. Rough way to lose. Wacha gave up five hits (including a solo home run) and no walks while fanning seven batters. The 22-year-old owns a 1.73 ERA and 25/3 K/BB ratio in 26 innings across his first four starts, so he has been worthy of the hype early on.
