Sweeney failed his league-mandated concussion test Monday, The Boston Herald reports.
Recommendation: The Red Sox are considering placing him on the 7-day DL because of his lingering concussion symptoms. He sustained the head injury Saturday night when he made a game-saving diving catch in the 8th inning in Philadelphia.

OF Ryan Sweeney went on the new seven-day disabled list reserved for players with head injuries after failing a Major League Baseball-mandated concussion test. The move opened a roster spot for the Red Sox to activate 3B Kevin Youkilis before Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Sweeney will be eligible to be activated Sunday, although he must first pass the concussion test in order to be cleared to play, according to GM Ben Cherington. Sweeney was injured while making a game-saving diving catch in center field last Saturday in Philadelphia.

The Boston Red Sox have put Sweeney on the 7-day concussion DL.
Advice: Sweeney hurt his head making a diving catch during Saturday's game against Philadelphia. He failed a major league-mandated concussion test on Monday. The move is retroactive to Sunday, so Sweeney could return as soon as this Sunday, when Boston hosts Tampa Bay.
