Sanchez struck out the side during a perfect inning of relief Sunday. Recommendation: Sanchez watched rookie Ryan Sadowski toss six scoreless innings during his turn in the rotation Sunday, but if he embraces his role in the bullpen, Sanchez could emerge as a dominant late-inning option. His stuff certainly translates well, and since concentration issues would factor less into work one inning at a time, Sanchez might be better suited for the pen, although he still adamantly wants to start. |

LHP Jonathan Sanchez's next start is still up in the air. Manager Bruce Bochy said the team hadn't decided when he'd pitch next. Sanchez's next slotted start would be Sunday, but with Thursday's off day, the Giants wouldn't need a No. 5 starter until Tuesday. However, the Giants now are thinking that RHP Tim Lincecum, who threw eight or nine innings in each of his past three starts, might benefit from an extra day's rest. He wouldn't get it if Sanchez is pushed back two days, so it's highly possible the struggling lefty will pitch Sunday, as scheduled. |

The Giants haven't made a decision whether to skip Sanchez's next turn, though they are strongly considering it and letting him work out of the bullpen a time or two. Advice: Sanchez (2-9) has lost four straight starts and is winless in five outings since a victory against Atlanta on May 25. The left-hander has a 7.22 ERA since that win, allowing 19 earned runs in 23 2-3 innings. |
