Player Notes
Pat Listach, the manager at Triple-A Tacoma, indicated Thursday that Carlos Quentin will play first base twice a week and otherwise will function as the team's designated hitter.

Advice: Due to Quentin's chronic knee injuries, the Mariners want to keep him as healthy as possible, so he won't be roaming the outfield at all. He's nothing more than organizational depth at this point, but he should get a chance with the big league club at some point during the season should injuries strike.

Mariners signed OF Carlos Quentin to a minor league contract.

Advice: Quentin was released by the Braves last week after being acquired in the Craig Kimbrel trade. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners are set to sign Carlos Quentin to a minor league deal, according to Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune.

Advice: Quentin was traded from the Padres to the Braves in the Craig Kimbrel deal, and the Braves subsequently released him on April 15. Quentin has some right-handed power but has had contact issues in recent years. It's a low-risk move for the Mariners.

Braves released OF Carlos Quentin.

Advice: Clearing waivers after being designated for assignment was a given for Quentin, who has chronic knee issues and batted just .177/.284/.315 in 155 plate appearances last season for San Diego. However, there should be some interest in the 32-year-old outfielder now that he can be had at the veteran minimum.
