Player Notes
Chris Young allowed five runs in just two-thirds of an inning in Monday's loss to the A's.

Advice: It'd be easy to make a joke like "this really was a Labor Day for Chris Young," but we're not sure he was out on the field long enough to break a sweat. Newest A Adam Dunn blasted a two-run home run off Young, which was followed by a walk, a single, another walk and a two-run single. After Young was pulled, the Seattle bullpen allowed an RBI-single to finish off Young's line. Young was making the start on Monday having been pushed back from what should have been his turn on Friday. If the idea was to give the veteran a little rest so that he could hit the stretch run fresh, it's not off to a great start. Even after allowing five runs in a few fractions of an inning, Young's ERA is still 3.46 and his WHIP of 1.20 is rock solid. He has yet to crack 100 strikeouts for the year, but he's making it work despite his lack of raw stuff. Young's the rare crafty righty.

Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon announced Friday that Chris Young will have his next start pushed back until Monday.

Advice: Roenis Elias will get the start in his place on Saturday. It's unclear at the moment the reason for the switch, but with Young struggling his last time out they may have just wanted to give him a couple of extra days of rest. He owns a terrific 3.17 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 150 1/3 innings on the year.

Chris Young yielded three earned runs and lasted just 3 2/3 innings Saturday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Young struggled out of the gate, yielding runs in the first, second, and third frames before exiting with a pitch count of 93 in the bottom of the fourth. He gave up seven hits and five walks in total. The shine was due to wear off at some point for the veteran right-hander, who still has a cool 3.17 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 150 1/3 innings this year. He'll try to get back on track next week versus the Nationals.
