Player Notes
Chris Young has been moved to the Royals' bullpen.

Advice: Manager Ned Yost has chosen to stick with Jeremy Guthrie in the rotation even though he's been greatly outperformed by Young. Guthrie isn't guaranteed anything beyond his next start, though, so things could still change.

Chris Young got a no-decision, allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings as the Royals defeated the Indians on Tuesday.

Advice: Michael Bourn accounted for the only run when he singled to lead off the fifth, then stole second base with one out and scored on catcher Salvador Perez's throwing error. Young gave up five hits and walked three while striking out five. It's the second time in as many starts Young has failed to complete five innings, but he still maintains a productive 3.25 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP and a 66/32 K/BB ratio over 99 2/3 innings. He's set to face the Blue Jays in Toronto next.

Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports that the Royals are expected to boot either Chris Young or Jeremy Guthrie from the rotation following the addition of Johnny Cueto.

Advice: Yordano Ventura was removed from the rotation just last week, but he got another shot with Jason Vargas (elbow) going down and responded with seven frames of one-run ball Sunday. Evidently that was enough to make his spot secure. Young (3.32 ERA) has out-pitched Guthrie (5.35 ERA) this season by a wide margin, but the former has already shown he can pitch well out of the bullpen with a 1.50 ERA in relief.

Chris Young was lifted after allowing four runs in three innings Thursday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Young is 2-4 with a 5.50 ERA over his last seven starts. Since he was so good before that and the Royals just lost Jason Vargas, Young shouldn't have to worry about his rotation spot just yet. Maybe that will change if the team trades for a starting pitcher.
