Player Notes
Coco Crisp singled in Ryon Healy in the bottom of the 13th for the only run as the A's beat the Rays 1-0 on Friday.

Advice: It was Crisp's only hit of the night, but it came at a good time. He should be starting to lose playing time with the A's needing to go younger down the stretch, but Bob Melvin just can't give him up. He's batting .196/.268/.235 in 51 at-bats this month. He's led off 12 times for the A's in July and scored just twice.

Coco Crisp is in Monday's lineup against the Astros.

Advice: The Athletics plan to give Jake Smolinski more time in center field, so Crisp hasn't played since Friday. He's hitting leadoff against right-hander Mike Fiers. Danny Valencia, who is also expected to take on a reduced role, is serving as the DH on Monday.

Coco Crisp is not in the Athletics' lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: It looks like the veteran is just getting a breather. Jake Smolinski is starting in center field with Khris Davis in left. Manager Bob Melvin said recently that he wanted to give Smolinski more time in center field, which could eventually reduce Crisp to a part-time role. The 36-year-old has hit .239 this year with seven homers and five steals.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Friday that Coco Crisp will probably see less playing time in center field.

Advice: The Athletics demoted Billy Burns on Friday, but they want to get a longer look at Jake Smolinski in center field. It's worth noting that Crisp's $13 million option for 2017 vests if he reaches 130 games played or 550 plate appearances this season, so it appears that the A's are trying to avoid that. Crisp batted .244/.305/.411 over 73 games during the first half.
