Player Notes
Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports that the Mariners have had serious discussions with the Phillies about acquiring outfielder Marlon Byrd.

Advice: There were reports earlier in the week that the Mariners had scouted the 36-year-old slugger. He's in the first year of a two-year, $16 million contract and has already indicated that he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause. The Mariners are in desperate need for a right-handed power bat, and Byrd seems like a very logical fit.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Mariners recently scouted Marlon Byrd.

Advice: The M's are in the market for a right-handed power bat, and Byrd certainly fits the profile. The 36-year-old has slugged 18 homers and driven in 52 runs this season while sporting a .261/.313/.481 batting line. He's in the first year of a two-year, $16 million contract with the Phillies. CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury has reported that the Mariners (along with the Royals, Blue Jays and Rays) are on Byrd's no-trade list. However, The Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton says that Byrd has indicated a willingness to waive the no-trade clause to go to a contender.

Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Byrd had an RBI single in the first inning before blasting his 18th home run of the season, a solo shot, in the seventh. Byrd's 18 home runs are second-most in the National League. He's been especially homer-happy of late, with five in his last seven games. The outfielder, who has enjoyed a career resurgence the past two seasons, is batting .266/.317/.497.
