Phillips broke out of a 1-for-16 slump with three hits, three runs and three RBIs to lead the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-1 win over his former team the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. Advice: "It's good to have a game like I did today, especially on my birthday and against the guys you used to play for," Phillips said. "Today, I was like, 'I'm going to show the Indians what they missed out on.'" Phillips developed into an All-Star and Gold Glove second baseman after being traded to the Reds in 2006. He has consistently come back to hurt the Indians, hitting .341 (30-for-88) with four homers, 18 RBIs and five stolen bases in 23 interleague games against them. |

Phillips went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Sunday's win over Cleveland. Recommendation: He entered the game in a 1-for-16 slump, but Phillips celebrated his 28th birthday with a big game against his former club. After a huge May where he hit seven homers and drove in 29 runs, Phillips has cooled off in June with just two homers in 96 at-bats. It's entirely possible that his power has been limited by lingering issues with his thumb. |
