Jul 1 LHP Jarrod Washburn, who had been able to avoid home runs for the most part in the first three months of the season, wasn't able to do so on the first day in July. Washburn was torched for three homers, including a tie-breaking two-run shot by former Mariner Alex Rodriguez in the sixth inning that decided the game. Washburn had only allowed eight homers all year, but that was before he had to pitch in one of the most homer-conducive ballparks around -- new Yankee Stadium. Yahoo! Sports

Jul 1 Washburn held the Yankees to four runs on eight hits in seven innings Wednesday, but the three home runs he allowed doomed him to a loss.

Recommendation: Two of the three home runs were solo shots (the mathemeticians out there figured that out already). He had only allowed eight home runs entering the game, so we may be able to chalk this up to facing the Yankees lineup in Yankee Stadium. He struck out six and walked one for the second start in a row.

Jun 26 Seattle gave starter Jarrod Washburn his first win in more than two months with a 9-3 victory over San Diego on Thursday.

Advice: Averaging just 4.27 runs of support in his Mariners career _ lowest among AL starters _ Washburn allowed six hits and struck out six, winning for the first time since April 21. He was 0-2 in his previous five starts, despite a 2.25 ERA.
