Washburn (knee) filed for free agency on Thursday, the Associated Press reports. Recommendation: Washburn, who had arthroscopic knee surgery in October, isn't expected to return to the Tigers. He has shown interest in returning to the Mariners and could provide some value next season if he fully recovers from his surgery. |

LHP Jarrod Washburn, who spent all but the last few months of the last four seasons with Seattle, has said he's open to returning to Seattle in 2010. Washburn, who was 1-3 with a 7.33 ERA for the Tigers after being dealt to Detroit at the trading deadline, was 8-6 with a 2.64 ERA while with the Mariners. He also was the American League Pitcher of the Month for June. He had been considering retirement, but a successful knee surgery has Washburn optimistic about pitching again. |
