Player Notes
Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said that the team will not contact David Ortiz in regards to coming out of retirement.

Advice: Ortiz took to Instagram following his former team's trade for Chris Sale, writing, "my boy sale to Btown? You guys got me thinking." Dombrowski logically took it as a joke, but made a point to deny that the team would try to lure Ortiz out of retirement. "I know David well enough -- and I know that if he really had sincere interest, that he would call," Dombrowski said. For what it's worth, Ortiz would not be eligible to return from the voluntary retirement list for the first 60 days of the 2017 season. But he's not coming back, guys.

David Ortiz has been named the winner of the Edgar Martinez Award.

Advice: As the name would suggest, the Edgar Martinez Award is handed out annually to the best designated hitter in the American League. This marks the eighth and final time in 20 major league seasons that Ortiz has hauled in the honor. During his age-40 campaign, the slugger swatted 38 homers and drove in 127 runs while slashing .315/.401/.620 across 537 at-bats.
