Player Notes
David Ortiz hit a three-run home run in Friday's win over the Orioles.

Advice: Big Papi hit the fifth-inning shot off of Oriole starter Miguel Gonzalez. He also chipped in a single, finishing 2-for-5. The home run was his fourth of the season and upped his RBI total to eight. While he's slashing just .211/.324/.439, we've seen Ortiz go through so many poor Aprils that it's hard to read much into the early numbers. Some guys just don't hit well at this time of the year.

David Ortiz is in the Red Sox lineup Thursday.

Advice: Ortiz was handed a one-game suspension Tuesday for making contact with an umpire on Sunday afternoon, but he has appealed and will remain active for Boston until there's a decision on that appeal. The veteran designated hitter is batting third for Boston on Thursday night against Rays right-hander Jake Odorizzi.

MLB suspended David Ortiz for one game for making contact with home plate umpire John Tumpane on Sunday.

Advice: He has appealed the suspension and will remain in the lineup Tuesday night against the Rays. Ortiz bumped Tumpane after he was ejected for arguing a check-swing call on Sunday.

David Ortiz was ejected from Sunday's game against the Orioles for arguing a check-swing strike call.

Advice: The ruling by home plate umpire Paul Emmel that Ortiz went around looked to be questionable, but Big Papi hasn't earned himself a great reputation given how often he gets into it with the men in blue. He's unlikely to face a suspension.

David Ortiz is not in the Red Sox' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: It's just a routine day of rest. Mike Napoli is in the designated hitter spot Wednesday, with Allen Craig handling first base. Ryan Hanigan is also sitting out, with Sandy Leon getting the start behind the plate.
