David Ortiz (elbow, foot) is not in the Red Sox starting lineup Monday night against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Ortiz was hit by a pitch in the left elbow on Saturday and then fouled a ball off his right foot Sunday. They're both minor injuries, but the veteran slugger needs a day of rest. He's hoping to play Tuesday. Mike Napoli is at designated hitter and Allen Craig is playing first base Monday in Toronto.

David Ortiz was forced to leave Sunday's game in the sixth inning due to a right foot contusion.

Advice: Ortiz most likely sustained the injury while fouling a ball off of his foot. He's considered day-to-day and should return to the Red Sox lineup on Monday.

David Ortiz was removed from Sunday's game against the Mariners with an apparent injury.

Advice: Ortiz singled in the sixth inning, but was limping on his way to first base and promptly removed for a pinch runner. The Red Sox should provide an update on the slugger's status shortly.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said after Saturday's game that he expected David Ortiz (elbow) to be back in the lineup Sunday.

Advice: Big Papi had to leave Saturday's contest after his left elbow swelled up following a hit by pitch. However, he's expected to be fine and might not even need a day off. Ortiz's streak of reaching base in nine consecutive plate appearances came to an end Saturday.

David Ortiz left Saturday's game against the Mariners after being hit in the arm by a pitch.

Advice: The Red Sox are saying Ortiz has a bruised left elbow. He was 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting. The veteran designated hitter will likely get a full day off Sunday.

David Ortiz reached base in all four plate appearances again Friday, going 2-for-2 with two walks in a loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Ortiz hasn't made an out since Tuesday, and he's reached base at least four times in each of his last four games. It's the longest such streak since Joe Mauer reached four times in five straight games in 2006. Ortiz doubled among his two hits Friday, and it's no coincidence that he owns an .886 OPS that ranks sixth in the American League. There isn't a hitter more locked in right now than Ortiz.

Sat, Aug 23 Rotoworld
David Ortiz is back in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Advice: Ortiz left Wednesday's game and then sat out Thursday due to some general soreness, but he's evidently feeling better. Big Papi is batting .263/.355/.523 with 30 homers and 93 RBI this season.
