Player Notes
David Ortiz is back in the Red Sox lineup Thursday.

Advice: Ortiz was held out of action for about a week while dealing with flu-related dehydration. The big DH is batting third in his return to Grapefruit League play and he should be 100 percent on Opening Day.

David Ortiz (general soreness, flu) took a long round of batting practice on Tuesday and also ran the bases.

Advice: Ortiz has been out almost a week because of a combination of flu and dehydration, but the Red Sox expect he'll be back in Grapefruit League action later this week. All signs point to him being in the lineup on Opening Day.

Red Sox manager John Farrell indicated Saturday that David Ortiz would likely be held out of action until Thursday.

Advice: The veteran slugger has been battling the flu and dehydration, in addition to general soreness. The team maintains that they have no doubt Ortiz will be in the lineup for the regular season opener on April 6.

David Ortiz will not play this weekend due to general soreness.

Advice: Red Sox manager John Farrell said that the soreness is not related to the Achilles issues Big Papi has dealt with in the past. It sounds like it's simply the club doing what it can to keep Ortiz's 39-year-old body as fresh as possible. Ortiz is slated to make $16 million in 2015 and will have an $11 million option for 2016 vest if he reaches 425 plate appearances.
