Guillen didn't start for the second straight game because of a stiff left side. He pinch-hit in the sixth and stayed in the game as the Royals lost 2-1 to Minnesota. Guillen was 0 for 2.
Advice: Royals manager Trey Hillman says the stiffness starts in Guillen's lower back and runs up his entire left side. Guillen has been playing through the off-and-on problem, but Hillman decided to give him some time off with the team set to play 15 straight days.

RF Jose Guillen was held him out of the lineup for the second straight day with stiffness in his left side but pinch-hit for CF Mitch Maier in the sixth inning and grounded out to shortstop. Guillen remained in the game in right, while Willie Bloomquist switched from right to center. Guillen struck out in the ninth.

Guillen was scratched against the Twins on Monday due to a sore left side and back, and could miss Tuesday's game as well, the Associated Press reports.
Recommendation: No word yet on who will replace him in the lineup. Guillen has been playing through the pain that begins in his back and shoots up his entire left side, but manager Trey Hillman decided to give him a couple days off with the Royals set for 15 straight games.
