If the Guardians' rotation is going to pitch deeper into games, Tanner Bibee paved the way Saturday night against the Braves. Bibee turned in the longest start by a Cleveland pitcher this season when he went seven scoreless innings in a 4-2, 11-inning win over the Braves. Cleveland's rotation entered Sunday's game against the Braves at 10-6 with a 3.83 ERA through 27 games.
The Guardians are off to a great start at 17-7. But one aspect that hasn't gone well is injuries, especially to their pitchers.
Gavin Williams told cleveland.com on Tuesday that patience is not his best virtue. Well, the Guardians' No. 1 pick in 2021 is going to have to work on that because manager Stephen Vogt announced that Williams will receive a cortisone injection in his sore right elbow on Wednesday and be shut down for seven days. Williams, sidelined in early March with pain in his right elbow, threw three innings for Cleveland's Arizona Complex team in Goodyear, Arizona, on Saturday.
