Giants GM Sabean might be disciplined

It sounds as if punishment for steroids distribution and use might go beyond the playing field and into the front office.

For many years the San Francisco Giants' clubhouse was the private playpen of Greg Anderson, who was Barry Bonds' personal trainer. Yet when team trainer Stan Conte informed general manager Brian Sabean that Anderson might be providing steroids to players, Sabean did nothing about it.

Rep. Henry Waxman, the chairman of the committee, asked Selig whether Sabean or Giants owner Peter Magowan should have reported the allegations against Anderson to the commissioner's office.

"Of course," Selig responded. "I don't want to say anymore because it's a matter I have under review."

Waxman was unrelenting.

"It's possible the Balco scandal could have been averted had Brian Sabean and Peter Magowan acted in a responsible fashion,'' he said. "Instead they seemed more intent on protecting Barry Bonds.''

Will Sabean be punished?

"You've raised a very valid point," Selig said. "It's of great concern to me. Why anybody is in the clubhouse besides the official team trainer is beyond me."

Selig repeated what he said in the aftermath of the Mitchell Report, that he will consider discipline on a case-by-case basis.

"case-by-case basis", which means the Big Money Targets will fall, while all others will be swept under the Rug, brilliant

Maybe Selig should discipline himself first. He knew what was going on in most clubhouses for years or if he didn't, he turned a blind eye.

    Selig: Master of hipocracy!
    Asterik your own paychecks, buddy!
His "ignorance" of the situation is a bigger joke than 50 Cent receiving HGH!
He was the parent who let his kids throw a hormone hoorah, and now that the police are knocking, "Who? Me?" Alfred E. Newman already coined that phrase, Bud!

Case by case bsis is horrible. Selig needs to learn from the NFL. Set strict guidlines for everyone. If the don't wat to play the rules they will be punished accordingly. The players union can under Gene Upshaw has had no success against the commish in the NFL. Maybe it's time to let Selig go back to the Brewers and elect a new commissioner.

after all the damage of the Mitchell report, it's time the Selig resigned. He wants to hold everyone accountable, but himself.

I think Bud genuinely cares about the game, but that fact will never surpass the fact that he is, and always will be, a crony.

What happened to "the buck stops here?" Selig doesn't have the honor of a Truman (love the reference to AE Newman of Mad Magazine fame), I agree that he should resign and let someone with some "stones" take this thing by the horns and make sure it doesn't happen again.
He gets Mitchell to do the dirty work that he should have done, and is now playing dumb about what went on under his watch.

No way Selig tries to implement a punishment against Sabean. The counter-suit for something like that would open more doors that Bud has been working to stonewall...

Go Selig! Go! Go! Go! Tell them that you are the crackdown mother of baseball and you are going to let these puppies have it. While you are at it, take a whip to Fehr. Show him who is boss, Selig! You can do it.

Sebean knew it, but he didn't want to upset that ego hound Bonds. Bonds made him money and he turned a blind eye to the juice he was taking.

Selig is as wrong as Sebean. They both knew roids were a part of the game. Selig should step down as commish for many reasons, the biggest is his hypocritical manner. If anyone should spend time behind bars it should be Selig.
