The death of Hannover goalkeeper Robert Enke brought back some particularly bad memories for Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel, who revealed for the first time how his own brother had taken his life due to depression. "My brother did exactly the same as Robert Enke, in precisely the same manner," he told the Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper. Babbel did not attend Enke's funeral ceremony but instead returned to his family home to be with his parents. "My mom needs me now," he said. Babbel was just 17 and studying away from home when his brother Gerhard took his life in 1989. The incident had remained secret until Enke's death last Tuesday prompted Markus to break his silence on an issue - depression - which Germany is now starting to take more seriously.
