The Bayer Leverkusen fans were calling for coach Michael Skibbe to resign during Wednesday's disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Hertha Berlin. That was the club's sixth defeat in the last eight Bundesliga games and leaves open the prospect of no European football at all in Leverkusen next season. Yet the players are not blaming the coach in the same way as the fans are and, instead, they accept the full responsibility for the recent collapse. "The fans have the right to whistle because we are not playing well and seem to be lacking any remnants of passion," he said. "We don't have any self-confidence and you cannot play successful football like this."
