Early morning fire closes Advance Auto Parts in Gonzalez area

A Tuesday morning fire has severely damaged a Gonzalez area Advance Auto Parts store.

Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to the commercial structure fire at the store located at 2440 S. U.S. Highway 29 at 4:17 a.m. after a burglar alarm tipped off authorities.

Davis Wood, public information officer for Escambia County Public Safety, said Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was the first to respond but quickly saw that it was a fire and not a prowler that set off the alarm.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from the roof and interior of the building when they arrived. The fire was out by 4:30 a.m.

The fire claimed a significant amount of merchandise. Wood said there is no word yet on when the store will be able to reopen.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bureau of Fire, Arsons & Explosives Investigations.
