As we‘ve seen in the past, Seattle’s famed 12th Man is proudly represented by baseball royalty.

But just in case we forgot that moment or thought Felix Hernandez’s raising of the flag at CenturyLink Field was a one time deal, the King of Seattle sports reaffirmed his support for the hometown squad by tweeting a photo of himself decked out in Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch’s No. 24 jersey and a Seahawks helmet.

And I’d say that was a wise selection by Hernandez considering he‘s been pitching in Beast Mode since the moment he picked up a baseball as a child, right up and through the 2012 season when he added a perfect game to his list of accomplishments.

Of course the Seahawks also have a real baseball connection in rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, who was a fourth round selection by the Colorado Rockies in 2010 first year player draft. After hitting .229 over two minor league seasons, though, Wilson elected to return to football full time and transferred to the University of Wisconsin, where he solidified his stock in the football world and became a third round pick in the NFL Draft.

Now, as Wilson's historic rookie season continues and he enters his second career playoff start on Sunday afternoon against the Atlanta Falcons — the first resulted in Seattle's first road playoff victory since 1983 — two things have become clear.

First, Wilson picked the right sport and he picked it at just the right time. Let's be honest, if you're overmatched in rookie ball and Low-A, there's no sense wasting time dreaming about a career that would eventually match your talents against elite arms such as that of a Felix Hernandez.

The other, barring something unforeseen, the Rockies will be referenced far more often during the NFL Playoffs than they will be during the baseball postseason for several years to come.
