Joba Chamberlain has a new look with the Detroit Tigers (USA TODAY Sports).

Here at Big League Stew, we are dedicated to bringing you only the most important and distinguished baseball news. Thus, we would like to introduce our new spring-training series — Beard Watch 2014, chronicling baseball's growing (get it?) beard population.

Joba Chamberlain left the New York Yankees for the Detroit Tigers this offseason, and quickly took advantage of the lifted restrictions on facial hair. No beards allowed with the Yankees. But he's free to get hairy in Detroit.

Upon joining the Tigers, a slimmed down Chamberlain told the media: "I can have a beard now. I'm excited about that. First time in my life." And here he is at Tigers camp, 'bout that beard life.

Beard status: It's coming along nicely. It still could fill out some, but that's to be expected for someone who has just joined The Beard Life.

Beard style: Short boxed.

Opening day beard outlook: Jeff Reardon.
