One person died in a fiery rollover crash along the onramp to eastbound Highway 126 early Sunday, Christmas Day, officials said.

The single-vehicle accident was reported around 3:45 a.m. on the ramp from northbound Wells Road in east Ventura, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A male was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck from Wells onto the ramp, the CHP reported. No one else was in the vehicle. His age was and city of residence were not available Sunday.

For unknown reasons, the Chevy went off the road and hit a tree, CHP officials said in a release, before the truck was engulfed by flames. The vehicle reportedly overturned into the dirt. CHP log notes indicate the truck may have been speeding before the crash.

City of Ventura firefighters and police responded along with ambulance crews. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

The incident closed the onramp from Wells to the eastbound 126 for a time.

No other information was immediately available.

The accident is under investigation by the CHP's Ventura office. Witnesses are asked to call the agency at 805-662-2640.
