Resurfacing, cable TV work slated in Northfield Center

A couple of projects are getting under way in the township, which could impact or disrupt motorists and/or certain residents, according to township officials.

One is the Olde Eight Road repaving project, preliminary work for which was scheduled to begin March 6 and will run through June 12. The actual road milling and resurfacing is scheduled to take place June 12-30.

Residents are advised to keep an eye on the township’s website for updated information.

Meanwhile, Spectrum is installing a new cable line primarily along Brookside Lane, meaning affected properties may have their front yards dug up.

According to a Spectrum spokesman, most of the front yards in the development are utility easements, and utilities have the right to work there. Anything placed or planted in the easement is the responsibility of the homeowner.

That means the utility can remove the item and not put it back. However, Spectrum officials said they will work with homeowners in special circumstances if reasonable.

The township has construction and restoration bonds from Spectrum for this project. The restoration bond is for one year to assure the ground doesn’t unreasonably settle and that grass takes root.

Verita Telecommunications will do the construction. For details, contact Stacy Konzelman at 234-571-2212 (office), 330-715-6696 (mobile), or email skonzelman@veritacorp.com.

Other business

At special meetings Feb. 15 and 28, township trustees sent the 2023 road rejuvenation program to the Summit County engineer’s office and authorized advertising for bids. The township’s attorney and the engineer’s office will help ensure that bid specs and related contract documents are in compliance with Ohio requirements.

A handful of financial items relating to the new safety center/administrative office building on Olde Eight Road were approved.

One is a five-year agreement with American Security for fire monitoring at a cost of $116.90 a month, plus an installation/connection fee of $499.

A second was First Energy’s placement of two streetlights on the access road to the building at no cost, but a monthly rate of $35.20.

Another was a purchase order for $3,978 to April Business Systems LLC for new furniture. Trustees had previously approved the furniture budget.

The new building is nearing completion, and occupation is not far off. It is on the grounds where the service garage has been located for several years. Groundbreaking took place in April 2022 for the $3 million project.

Trustees accepted the high bids received in a public auction for the following no longer needed vehicles: 2008 Ford E-450, 2012 Bobcat E42 excavator, 2000 Bobcat 873 skid steer and 2007 Volvo ECDDB excavator.

No action was taken, but trustees discussed a number of matters with Interim Administrator Jim Honsberger, including service garage fiber connections work by Premise Solutions and electronicequipment purchases, soil borings, related services and the purchase of signs for various areas of the safety center/administrative offices building.

Honsberger and Trustee Chairman Rick Patz presented information about the inventory of materials, machinery, tools and other supplies, which townships are required to document at the beginning of each year under Ohio Revised Code.

Trustees discussed personnel matters in two executive sessions, and Patz announced no action was taken at either.
