What Nick Saban said following Alabama’s first scrimmage of the spring

On Saturday afternoon inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Alabama football team completed its first of three scrimmages of the 2022 spring festivities. After the scrimmage was wrapped up, head coach Nick Saban took to the podium to answer some questions from members of the media.

Here are a few of the thoughts from the seven-time national championship head coach.

First…thoughts on the wideouts…

Coach Saban offered up a few thoughts on the wide receivers following Saturday’s scrimmage.

“I think we dropped some balls, which is something that we need to clean up. Jermaine Burton did a good job today. Little Aaron Anderson had a couple big plays, did a nice job. Really good run after catch ability. Took a five-yard play and ran for 35, 40 yards against the first-team defense. So I think the receivers are coming along.”

Next…Jalen Milroe is coming along…

Saban is pleased with the progression that Jalen Milroe has made at quarterback.

“I thought Jalen Milroe has made really consistent strides and he did some good things today. He actually moved the team. We always give the second (quarterback) an opportunity with the first team, and he moved the team down the field pretty effectively. I think he’s got a better understanding of what we’re doing. He’s getting a little more consistent in his ability to execute.”

Finally…the attitude of the team…

Coach Saban is very pleased with the mental makeup of this squad so far.

“This team’s been really good. This team doesn’t have any complainers, guys just do what they’re coached to do. They work hard. We don’t have a lot of negative guys on this team, and we have some real positive leadership, which I think is always important. And hopefully we can build on that and that will be something that’s an asset to this team. It’s easy to start that way, it’s more difficult to sustain. Hopefully, this team will be able to sustain it, and that will help us in terms of our development when the fall rolls around.”
