Avalanche Baffle NHL Fans in Game 2 Loss as Stars Shut Down MacKinnon, Makar

The Dallas Stars have evened the series against the Colorado Avalanche after a 5-3 win Thursday night. It was all Dallas through the first two periods as the Stars took a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Miro Heiskanen and a goal each from Roop Hintz and Tyler Seguin. The Avalanche applied some pressure in the third period after goals from Joel Kiviranta, Brandon Duhaime and Valeri Nichushkin, but Dallas ultimately capitalized on an empty Colorado net to make it a two-goal game in the final minute.

Cale Makar Deserves to Win His Second Norris Trophy

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar was recently announced as a finalist for the James Norris Memorial Trophy, awarded every season “to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.” This has been arguably an even more impressive season for Makar than the season he won his first Norris. For Makar, this has been just another great regular season of many more to come. This season has been a tight race for the Norris — the Vancouver Canucks' Quinn Hughes and Nashville Predators' Roman Josi put up incredible seasons as well — but here is my case on why Makar should be coming out of this race with his second Norris.

  • Nichushkin has hat trick, Avalanche take Game 4 to push Jets to brink

Artturi Lehkonen and Cale Makar each had a goal and an assist, and Nathan MacKinnon had two assists for Avalanche, the No. 3 seed from the Central Division. Alexandar Georgiev made 25 saves. Nate Schmidt scored for the Jets, who are the No. 2 seed from the Central. Connor Hellebuyck allowed four goals on 30 shots before being replaced by Laurent Brossoit at the start of the third period.
