After a disappointing 2023-24 NHL season, the Calgary Flames and their fanbase are licking their wounds. Most players will now spend their time recuperating, golfing or being with their families, but not Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane. The 28-year-old is taking his talents across the globe to Czechia for the 2024 IIHF World Championships to represent Team Canada on the ice. A native of Barrie, Ontario, Mangiapane joins a youth-laden roster that features top NHL rookie Connor Bedard as well as probable 2024 first-overall draft selection Macklin Celebrini, among others.
With one game remaining in the season, the Flames recently had its team photo day. “How much did you pay for that haircut?” Mikael Backlund is heard saying at the start of the clip. Shortly after, 6-foot-4 goaltender Jacob Markstrom took a seat next to the 5-foot-10 Mangiapane, but made sure to sit on several towels while doing so. When asked by Mangiapane why he needed to look taller, the Swedish goaltender responded, “Because you're so big.”
Andrei Kuzmenko scored three goals, Nazem Kadri had a goal and two assists, and the Calgary Flames withstood Anaheim's third-period rally for a 6-3 victory over the Ducks on Friday night. Kuzmenko got his second career hat trick with two goals in the final 5:38 after Anaheim had trimmed Calgary's 4-0 lead to one goal.
