Lions show off new helmet models during OTAs

Amidst all the hullabaloo over new uniforms, some Detroit Lions veterans are rocking new helmets to go with them. Though the helmets get painted and maintained by the team’s uniform staff, each player gets to pick their helmet maker and model—and then, per NFL regulations, have to stick with it all season long. That’s why OTAs are the first chance we get to see whether veterans are changing models. Thanks to a retweet from Detroit Sports Nation’s Logan Lamorandier, the “HelmetStalker” Twitter account has spied some new Detroit lids: Reciever Golden Tate appears to be rocking a Vicis ZERO1, while tailback Ameer Abdullah looks to have switched from a Schutt AirXP to the model Tate wore last year,

Michigan's Jim Harbaugh on fights, handshakes and farms

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has a long history of scuffles. Whether in a locker room or with a handshake or on Twitter, he falls into them. Occasionally, they’re real and in person, as he told a story on the “Pardon My Take” podcast that dropped today. “I haven’t gotten in fight since I was 39,” Harbaugh told the hosts. “I don’t want to go into details. I don’t know if I really won.” More on Freep.com: The hosts joked that it was a wrestling match with another similar aged person. But Harbaugh made it clear it was more serious. “That was a fistfight,” he said. :”A couple guys. It was a like a Bennigan’s type of thing. Late night, somebody made a comment, I took exception. I took a couple shots.

Are you okay with Calvin Johnson visiting Raiders OTAs?

Calvin Johnson added fuel to the raging fire in the belly of Detroit Lions fans on Tuesday when he showed up to Oakland Raiders organized team activities as a guest of offensive coordinator Todd Downing, who served as an offensive coach for the Lions back when Calvin was in the league. The surprising move comes off the heels of Johnson’s harsh comments regarding how his relationship with the Lions ended sourly after his retirement. The combined actions have a portion of the fans irate at Calvin, some are disappointed in the team and others just want us to shut the hell up and talk about players that are currently on the team. However, I’d like to get a gauge of where the fanbase currently stands.
