Bill Mathis, a versatile running back and an original member of the New York Jets franchise, has died. The team announced Mathis' death Tuesday on Wednesday night. There was no cause of death given, but the team said Mathis had long been dealing with several health issues.
After Week 5 saw the Giants and Atlanta Falcons get their first wins of the season, the Jets saw themselves thrusted up into sole possession of the worst record on the NFL at 0-6. But that also puts them into slot for the No. 1 pick in the 2021 Draft, which more than likely is expected to be Clemson's Trevor Lawrence.
New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas got a jump on the NFL trade deadline, unloading defensive tackle Steve McLendon on Sunday and linebacker Jordan Willis on Wednesday. Look for Douglas to keep working the phones before the Nov. 3 trade deadline. Same goes for New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman, with the team headed for a top-10 draft pick for the fourth straight season.
