Justin Herbert’s wildly successful rookie season in 2020 has Los Angeles Chargers’ fans thinking of another former Oregon star quarterback. Herbert is being compared to Dan Fouts, arguably the greatest quarterback in Chargers’ franchise history. One website says Herbert is tracking toward being the best Chargers’ quarterback since Fouts, who has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
There is not a tight end currently on the roster that can provide the same every-snap impact that Henry provides for the offense. With other pressing needs, the team is not going to take a tight end early enough in the 2021 NFL Draft to instantly replace him and the free-agent options are not that great, either. Say what you will about Henry but he is easily the best free-agent tight end available.
I feel like a broken record saying this but drafting Slater would be splash. Slater might be moved inside due to his lack of arm length, but he has the athletic skill set and overall technique to be an All-Pro blind-side protector in the NFL. In Round 2, L.A. stays on the offensive side of the ball by selecting former Penn State tight end Pat Freiermuth.
