Mavericks turning to secret weapon in Game 5 vs. Clippers

The Dallas Mavericks need a spark for their three-point shooting. Dallas is shooting just 32.8 percent from beyond the arc through the first four games of their first round series against the Los Angeles Clippers, per StatMuse. On Tuesday after practice, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd said Dante Exum will play a “big part” in Game 5. Perhaps Exum can help the Mavericks get back on track from three-point range.

Josh Giddey reduced to spectator as Aussie is benched in NBA playoffs

Josh Giddey was relegated to the bench for crunch time in his NBA playoffs debut as top-seeded Oklahoma City were almost run down by an undermanned New Orleans. The Australian third-year point guard played just 20 minutes and wasn't sighted in the final 10 minutes of a see-sawing, first-round Western Conference meeting with the Pelicans. After 20 lead changes and 11 ties the Thunder prevailed 94-92, CJ McCollom's off-balance effort to win on the buzzer missing for the eighth-seeded visiting side who were without leading scorer Zion Williamson (hamstring). It was the Thunder's first post-season game at home since 2019, Giddey's side the youngest top-seeds in NBA history with an average age of 23.9.

Mavs co-stars Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic are working on a better plot after last year's flop

Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic draped their arms over each other in a pseudo-embrace, smiles of exhaustion on the faces of the co-stars of the Dallas Mavericks. The final seconds of a 147-136 overtime victory against Houston on Sunday were still ticking off, with Irving and Doncic having combined for 85 points as part of a 22-point rally for a win that wouldn't have been possible without Dante Exum's buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of regulation. Irving, who scored a season-high 48 points, may have been “depleted” — his word during an on-court interview just a couple of minutes later — but he and Doncic hope they're just getting started.
