A free agent this offseason, Alonso's status in New York has been at the forefront of conversation for about the past year. Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns told reporters Tuesday that “nothing's changed” regarding Alonso, however a report from ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney earlier that day indicated nothing is close.
