    When can SF Giants expect Alex Cobb back after latest setback?

    Since undergoing surgery on the last day of October, Alex Cobb has had a date in his mind of when he wanted to be back pitching for the San Francisco Giants. Transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, the earliest Cobb will be eligible to join the Giants' rotation is May 27. “Now that they've got a date, they're going to map it out neatly,” said Cobb, who did everything in his power over the offseason to put him well ahead of schedule in his recovery from hip surgery, accelerating his timeline by two months or more and pitching simulated games by the end of spring training.

    Giants notes: Matos, Teng join team; Cobb's return is close

    Before the 2024 MLB season opener Thursday, Giants manager Bob Melvin said his conversation with Luis Matos was the toughest one he had as the roster was finalized. A day later, Matos arrived back in the big leagues. With Mike Yastrzemski on the paternity list and Luke Jackson on the IL, the Giants brought Matos and right-hander Kai-Wei Teng down from Sacramento. The Matos move was expected, although the Teng addition was an emergency addition.
